Nimbus Elemental | Free Monster for D&D and PF2e

A thick mist clings to the ground, swirling and shifting as if it possesses a consciousness of its own, watching every move. As you step forward, it seems to respond with a small burst of lightning, giving it a momentary silhouette. Whether or not there was a face in that moment is difficult to say. Maybe there is a statue within that it obscures. Maybe it doesn’t want you to come any closer.

 

Cloud Giant Creations. Nimbus elementals are the result of the arcane prowess of cloud giants. Their purpose is to be unseen guardians amongst the fortresses built on the clouds. As a result, they typically remain on the exterior of these fortresses, though one or two may be obscuring the entrance to a vault or another place where their master would like none to tread.

Elemental Nature. The nimbus elemental doesn’t require air, food, drink, or sleep.

Air Form. The elemental can enter a hostile creature’s space and stop there. It can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch without squeezing.

Charged Form. A creature that touches the nimbus elemental or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 5 (1d10) lightning damage.

False Appearance. While the nimbus elemental remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from heavy fog.

Actions

Multiattack. The nimbus elemental makes two lightning charge attacks.

Lightning Charge. Melee Attack: +7 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 13 (2d8 + 4) lightning damage.

Thunderous Burst (Recharge 4-6). The nimbus elemental builds the electrical energy within itself until a burst of thunderous energy extends outward. Any creature within 20 feet of it must make a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or take 18 (4d8) thunder damage and be pushed back 20 feet. On a success, the creature takes half as much damage and is not pushed away. In addition, unsecured objects that are completely within the area of effect are automatically pushed 20 feet away from the nimbus elemental, and a thunderous boom is audible up to 300 feet away.

Drift [one-action] (concentrate) Until the next time it acts, the nimbus elemental appears to be a cloud of inert fog. It has an automatic result of 41 on Deception checks and DCs to pass as a cloud.

Thunderous Burst [two-actions] (primal, sonic) The elemental unleashes a clap of thunder in a 10-foot emanation. Each creature in the area takes 4d8 sonic damage with a DC 29 basic Fortitude save. Each creature that fails and each Medium or smaller unattended object in the area is pushed 15 feet directly away. The thunder is clearly audible at least 300 feet away.
